This is the Tree for [personal profile] silveredeye! Below are the requested Pears it can be decorated with (beginning 24 December).

Username: [personal profile] silveredeye
AO3 Username: [archiveofourown.org profile] Silvereye

Request 1: Ficlet for any of these fandoms (preferred ships and DNW ships (if any) in parentheses):

  • MCU (preferred: Steve/Natasha, Steve/Thor, Thor/Jane; DNW: Steve/Bucky)

  • Wolf 359 (preferred: Lovelace/Minkowski, Jacobi&Maxwell, Jacobi&Minkowski; DNW: Kepler/Jacobi)

  • Fullmetal Alchemist (preferred: Roy/Riza)

  • Battlestar Galactica (preferred: Kara/Sam, Kara&Helo)

Request 2: A playlist of happy songs. Genre-wise I'm most partial to symphonic/power metal, indie pop and OSTs, lyrics-wise I have no preference (instrumental and non-English songs are perfectly fine).

Request 3: Audio drama recommendations. I like SFF the best, but other genres are also good. Would prefer finished, not ongoing, and shorter than approximately 50 episodes.

Request 4: Nature icons. I like wide open spaces (the ocean, the sky), birds (especially songbirds), sunlight and greenery.

Request 5: Cookie recipes. I like chocolate and cinnamon. I have no food restrictions.

Additional Information: For the ficlet request, I am happy to read gen and would gladly receive genfic for any of the preferred / ships. If you'd like to read my exchange letters, they can be found here. My general DNWs are explicit gore, humiliation, hopeless endings, rape as plot point and slavery.

Here's a cookie recipe; I hope you enjoy them if you make them. The measurements are in Imperial; sorry!

Maple Leaves

2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup softened butter
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 packed cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for the glaze
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix flour and salt in a bowl; set aside.
Cream butter and sugars together; add syrup and vanilla. Beat until mixed.
Add flour until blended.
Refrigerate the dough for at least an hour but no more than three days.

Preheat oven to 350F.
Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness; cut into leaf shapes. (Optional step; I don't see why they can't be dropped onto the pan instead of rolled out.)
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
When cookies are cool, brush with syrup.
Dry for an hour before storing.

The maple flavor is light, not intense.

Thank you. :D

I don't think I've ever cooked with maple syrup, but I have seen it in bigger supermarkets, so I'll definitely try this recipe.

You're welcome!

I asked the Europeans in a Discord I belong to if they could buy it; I would have chosen a different recipe if it hadn't been available. :)

Hi silveredeye,

I was so glad you requested icons of the ocean as it’s my favourite place to be. I also like that you mentioned liking the sky and sunlight, so I tried to choose images with lots of light or interesting skies. I hope you like them!

Wishing you a very happy holidays :)

Thank you. :D

These are really lovely. I especially like 5 (the interplay of dark grey and golden light is so pretty) and 7 (the clouds and seafoam look almost baroque, it's such a nice effect).

Best of holidays to you, too. :)

I don't know if you've ever heard of Matthew Good Band but for me, they're the only band I can describe as creating songs that are infectiously happy and deliciously quirky. They're Canadian and they're more indie pop rock, but I haven't found any other pop rock band with so many great songs covering so many interesting and addictive themes. Matthew Good really has a way with lyrics that never fails to surprise or satisfy. My go-to albums are Beautiful Midnight and Underdogs and here are some of my favorite songs:

I'm not sure if you like the X-Men, but you do like Marvel, so I'm going to go ahead and recommend Wolverine: The Long Night, it has a murder mystery feel to it, Wolverine is central to the narrative, but you are not following him, you are following two detectives who think that Wolverine may be responsible for a heinous crime. Anyways, there is a second season, I'm afraid I haven't listened to it, but my understanding is each season is its own contained story.

Oh, that sounds very interesting. I'm sort of aware of X-Men movieverse (have seen the old trilogy, some of the new movies and really loved Logan). The setup of the podcast sounds really good. Thank you! :)

Curry Cookies Makes 50

2 tsp mild curry powder or garam masala
2½ cups all purpose flour (10 ounces)
1 cup almonds (plus additional 50 to decorate cookies, if desired)
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup (2 sticks or 8 oz) unsalted butter
1 tsp grated orange zest
⅔ cup granulated sugar
⅔ cup lightly packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut

Heat curry powder in a small heavy skillet over low heat for 15 to 20 seconds until fragrant. (I've also been told you can microwave it, but I don't have a microwave.) Let cool.

Place flour, 1 cup of almonds, the toasted curry powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a food processor with a steel blade. Pulse until the mixture is finely chopped and cakey. (I don't have a food processor, so I grind the almonds in my coffee grinder and then just mix the dry ingredients with my hands until it gets cakey.)

In a mixer, mix the butter and orange zest on medium low speed until creamy and lightened in color. Add the sugar in a steady stream, then the brown sugar. Mix for about 1 minute. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each one. Add the vanilla. Scrape bowl as needed. (Again, you can cream these ingredients together by hand.)

Add the dry ingredients in three additions, mixing just until blended after each addition. Fold in the coconut.

Chill dough for 20 to 30 minutes, until firm enough to shape or scoop into balls.

Preheat oven to 375 F. Moderately butter the cookie sheets or use parchment paper.

Form 1-inch balls of dough, and place on cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart. Using a cookie scoop is by far the fastest way. If you don't have a cookie scoop, the fastest way to shape the dough is to divide it into four, shape each quarter into a sausage, and cut the sausage into suitably sized chunks that you can then roll into balls.

If using an almond or almond sliver to decorate, press it into the top of the cookie. Flatten each cookie into a 1½ inch disk. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Turn pans from back to front once during baking and swap the pans top to bottom if you're cooking two pans at once. Let stand 2 –3 minutes to cool, then loosen with a metal spatula. If using parchment paper, slide the paper with the cookies onto cooling rack. They should be easy to remove after a few minutes.

These freeze well, and will store airtight at room temp up to 3 weeks.
