Date: 2019-12-24 03:36 am (UTC)Alec's version of "We Three Kings" is absolutely the best version there is. No question in my mind.
(The poetic story about Alec and Heather is, Alec is the mortal human who was replaced as a little boy with a Faerie changeling, and he returned to the mortal world as a grown man when the changeling in question, Heather, returned to Faerie—taking time to record this album together first. The prosaic story is, Alec recorded the higher-range parts of Wintertide before starting hormonal transition and the lower-range parts after his voice settled, with the effect that it sounds like the album was recorded as a duo.)

Re: Historical Recs
Date: 2019-12-31 01:39 am (UTC)So many of these recs sound amazing. My interest is particularly piqued by your descriptions of The Huntress, Goddess, and Rejected Princesses. Also, I really appreciate how many of these seem inclusive of women and minorities. Thank you for putting together such a thoughtful rec list! I can't wait to start exploring...!

Book Recs
Date: 2019-12-28 12:05 pm (UTC)1. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith - coming of age story set in 1930s England. I consider this book comfort food and try to reread it every year.
2. The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey - a dual-narrative book that actually kept my interest in both halves of the book (doesn't always happen!) set in 1920s and 1930s England (I think you are seeing a pattern: I have a big interest in the first half of the 20th century :p)
3. The Stationery Shop by Marjan Kamali - (I break the pattern!) This is set in a historical time and place that I know little about (1950s Iran) so that was a great interest to me (I should note that part of the book does take place in current times).
I hope you enjoy these if you read them! :)

Date: 2020-01-02 01:54 am (UTC)I made you a playlist of my favourite type of music - musical theatre! I know that's not for everyone so feel free to ignore it if it isn't for you, but I think they're all pretty awesome songs :D
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL19ttT1qzXc3jB2ZRR7GY4vlCxE3Dyijd
1. Legally Blonde the Musical - So Much Better (Elle realizes being an awesome law student is better than being Warner's girlfriend!)
2. Hadestown - All I've Ever Known (Eurydice has always been by herself, but now she has Orpheus <3)
3. Something Rotten! - Hard to Be the Bard (William Shakespeare complains about how hard writing is and the pressure of fame!)
4. Waitress - She Used to Be Mine (Jenna thinks back on who she used to be and who she's going to be)
5. Six - Six (Henry VIII's six wives are better off without him, thanks)
6. Falsettos - The Games I Play (Whizzer is trying to get over a break-up)
7. Beetlejuice the Musical - No Reason (Delia and Lydia debate whether the universe makes things happen for a reason)
Hope you find something you like! :)
